Description

IC 2631 is a reflection nebula and the brightest in the Chamaeleon star-forming complex about 500 light-years away. This object is illuminated by a star called HD 97300 one of the youngest and most massive and brightest in its neighbourhood. This nebula will be studied by the JWST to learn more about the formation of water and other cosmic ices. The surrounding extremely faint dark nebula emits a brown hue due to its red and near-infrared emissions.
This was a difficult target to process even though it was shot at a Bortle 1 site. The brown dust and nebula were very faint although the rich star field came through on each incoming sub frame.
